As part of UCFB’s Exchange Programme with Harvard Law School, several sports law students from the world-renowned university visited UCFB Wembley this month, for the exclusive chance to immerse themselves in our specialised sports-related degrees.
Course Leader Alex Chrysanthou, who organises the programme each year, said: “We are privileged to be running an exchange of sports law students with Harvard University for the third year running. This is an opportunity for collaboration and learning in sports law for students from UCFB and Harvard University. Students from both sides have had the opportunity to work on a variety of sports law issues, from both professional and academic viewpoints. We look forward to continuing this unique relationship.”
The placement operates over a three week period, giving Harvard students the opportunity to work at UCFB’s iconic campuses, in barrister chambers, join legal organisations and shadow solicitors. UCFB undergraduates studying our BA (Hons) Sports Business & Sports Law programme also have the unique opportunity to visit Harvard Law School, and legal companies connected to the prestigious university.
Ab Henry, who recently completed the exchange, said: “My experience at UCFB has been nothing short of amazing. The faculty at this university have really broadened my understanding of the law industry. Being in London has really helped shape my understanding of the ways the United States legal system differs from the legal system in England. My work and discussions with lawyers here in London have helped me learn from the way they practice law, and I was able to provide a different perspective using my understanding of US law.”
The benefits of the programme go far beyond the barrister chambers – students have been able to enjoy a flavour of London life – from fish and chips to fanatic football. Henry, along with a mix of Harvard and UCFB students, was lucky enough to attend the Premier League game between Liverpool and Brentford last week.
Ryan Scott-Taggart, who studies Sports Law at UCFB Wembley, commented: “Going to the game was a great experience for us all watching Premier League action. I valued my time with the Harvard students, learning about both their studies and their personal lives over in the States! We all went for a quiz night at Boxpark where we all learnt more about each other’s interests and hobbies. I wish them all the best in the future and hopefully they enjoyed our company. Maybe we will meet again one day!”
