One of our Foundation Year media students is celebrating having one of her articles published in a national newspaper.

Ellie Killick, a BA (Hons) Multimedia Sports Journalism student, got her work published on the Mirror Online website after spending some time on work experience at the newspaper’s offices.

Currently, Ellie writes a blog where she follows her beloved Crystal Palace across the country, covering both home and away games.

She said: “I got the opportunity to do work experience at the Mirror Online while I was attending an Include Conference in Manchester in May.

“Mirror representatives were at the event. When I told them about how I was studying Multimedia Sports Journalism at UCFB and was looking for experience, Darren Wells invited me to the office in Canary Wharf for a day.

“It’s a real honour to have my writing on a national newspaper website, and it feels that extra bit special that my first story was about my own club’s legend Wilfried Zaha.

“My future aspirations are to develop my writing, continue my blog, attend and write about more games, and hopefully get more work into newspapers.

My long-term goal is to either be a social media manager or a multimedia journalist working within football.”

She added: “As a newcomer to the sports media industry the main thing I’ve learnt so far is to say yes to all opportunities presented to me, and would share that advice to young people wanting to get into sports media because experience is key!

“I’ve enjoyed my first year at UCFB as a foundation student having connections opened up to me and attending events such as Ascot and Watford… not forgetting the mind-blowing fact I see Wembley Stadium every day!

“I now am excited to start my full Multimedia Sports Journalism degree next year and continue to expand my knowledge!”
