Graduate Tom Moore, who studied BA (Hons) Football Coaching & Management at UCFB Manchester, shares how he balanced training on and off the pitch as UCFB Manchester Men’s Football Academy captain.

Before joining UCFB Manchester upon being awarded a two-year scholarship at Swindon Town, he played football alongside his BTEC Sports Education.

On his experience of playing at UCFB, he said: “We normally train twice a week on a Monday and Tuesday and [play] a game on the Wednesday.

The rest of the days you’re invited to go to non-league clubs so you can play on a Saturday as well. Overall, there’s quite a lot of football but it’s enjoyable whilst also studying.”

The UCFB Men’s Football Academy is for aspiring professionals to study university degrees in football coaching, management, business and numerous other sectors of the sports industry to study alongside a full-time sports training programme;  preparing students like Tom for careers beyond the pitch.

As well as professional football training at the UCFB Men’s football academy, Tom shares:

“I think what I’ve taken from playing at the academy is just having that high standard of training and again like I did have when I had a scholarship, now it’s like I’m back to it at a part-time level.”

Tom shares what the day in the life of being a captain at Manchester’s Academy looks like:

“At the same time as training, I’m also getting the education and degree at the end of it, which is going to be very beneficial in not only my playing career but also [... when I stop playing] and my future.

“I would recommend UCFB to anyone in my position, doing a BTEC in sport or anything to do with sports.

"If you want to get the connections to better yourself in the future, this is the university you need to go to.”
