A broadcasting student has been speaking to us about what it’s like to have his first full-time role in football, working for his beloved West Ham United.

Taylor Wood, who has spent the last three years studying BA (Hons) Sports Business and Sports Broadcasting at UCFB, is now a junior video producer at the Hammers.

When asked about his new job, Taylor said: “This role involves planning, shooting and editing a variety of innovative video content across all club platforms.

“Each day looks completely different which makes the role unique as I can be working on a variety of different things in various locations each week.

“For example, I was recently apart of the team that covered West Ham’s Europa Conference League final win in Prague.

“To have worked at a final for the club I’ve supported my entire life is something which will always feel like a dream! An experience and memory I will never forget!”

He added: “I’m absolutely delighted to have secured my first full time job in the football industry, after many internships during my time at UCFB I’m really happy to now be full time within a football club.

“To have been given this opportunity before completing university was a massive shock and completely unexpected.”

Taylor went on to talk about his time at university: “I have loved my time at UCFB. Without a doubt one of the best decisions I have ever made was to study at UCFB. I’ve made some great friends and have been taught by some incredible lecturers along the way.”

“The biggest piece of advice I could give is experience is key. Use the three years at UCFB to gain your degree but also try and get as much experience on your CV at the same time, by putting yourself out there as much as you can.

“During my time at UCFB I’ve had multiple internships at football clubs, a part time role with the FA and a few freelance positions. These experiences helped massively when I applied for full time positions.

“They gave me things to talk about in interviews and the best thing about them is that I learnt so much from a variety of different experiences. Being able to practice what you learn in the classroom in a professional setting is great too!”
