One of UCFB’s alumni has been speaking to us about life since graduating from UCFB, and his day-to-day life working as an assistant producer at BBC Sport.

Will Hobson graduated with a degree in BA (Hons) Multimedia Sports Journalism in 2020, and has since gone on to work with the likes of Rio Ferdinand before his latest move to BBC Sport.

Will is now based at MediaCityUK in Salford, where many UCFB media students will be based from 2023-24 as part of the Manchester Campus expansion.

At BBC Sport, Will’s role includes creating digital content for BBC Sport’s website and social media channels from shows including Match of the Day and Football Focus.

Will said: “It’s great to have BBC Sport on my CV so early on in my career, as the BBC is a massive organisation with a lot of credibility.

“The BBC has so many talented people, so many people to learn from, and you get to work with a lot of high-profile stars on a day-to-day basis.”

When asked about his time at university, Will said: “I really wanted to work within media and sports, and UCFB was the perfect opportunity for that.”

During his time at the Etihad Campus, Will took advantage of the work placement opportunities on offer, as he spent two years volunteering at National League North club Curzon Ashton, filming matches and interviewing players.

He said: “Volunteering at clubs like that gave me the progression that I needed to be where I am today.”

After graduating from UCFB, Will went on to work for YouTube production company Studio 68, working with Manchester United fan channels and former England captain Rio Ferdinand.

After two years there, he applied and was successful for his current role at BBC Sport.
